This delightful trail is refreshing and idyllic in many
ways. You will travel in deep forests lined with lush rhododendrons
and Zen-like moss gardens. Meanwhile, the trail is always just footsteps
away from a bubbling mountain stream. Stop by the water, sit on a
boulder and recharge your batteries along sparkling Meadow Run.
This is a natural terrain trail - which means that
there are slippery sections, rocks, roots, and some ups and downs.
Stream conditions range from the rumbling waters shown at left to
the calm shallows being enjoyed by the family at right. From where
it starts at the upper parking area, to its terminus at the Great
Gorge Trail, the Meadow Run Trail traverses about 3 miles. If you
take your time, follow the Great Gorge Trail into Ohiopyle for lunch,
and take lingering breaks at waterside, you can easily make this into
an all-day activity. Many people like to swim in Meadow Run as well
(see Swimming at Meadow Run pg. 36) so you might consider hiking in
a swimsuit and sturdy water shoes.
